Best Robot Floor Cleaner

Robotic mops are more effective than vacuum cleaners that need you to sweep the floor before they can perform their job. They are also more effective at cleaning around edges and thresholds.

Our favorite is the iRobot Combo j5+, which scored well in CR's tests for vacuuming and mopping. It is able to navigate around obstacles within the home and clean hardwood floors, as well as carpets with low pile.

The iRobot Combo j5+ is an affordable alternative to the i7 or J9 combo models. It has similar mops but it has a patented dirt-detecting system as well as a powerful vacuuming. The iRobot j5+ also does well in our vacuum and mopping stress tests, but it's not as efficient as the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Omni in these tests, making the Combo J5+ a less versatile choice.

Narwal Freo X Ultra

The Freo X Ultra, a highly rated and extremely functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop is a well-built machine. The $1400 list price may be hard to swallow but it is often offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic and the base station occupies only a tiny space in a corner of the room.

The design of this robot is a solution to some of the issues we've experienced with other robotic mop and vacuum units, including brushes that get tangled up in hair, and the vacuum brush not being able to reach bare flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance is also impressive on carpets as well as bare flooring. The vacuum/mop has a high level debris pickup and the mop will quickly saturate bare flooring.

The mops also use a smart system to clean along the edges of furniture and around walls. The robot can handle the largest obstacles such as food bowls, toys backpacks, and shoes without any problem. However, it could get stuck or become entangled with smaller and flatter objects such as shoelaces, USB cables and pens.

We used this robot to clean and mop a mixture of pile carpet tiles, FLOR carpet and hardwood floors in a large, open house floor plan. With FREO Mind enabled, it vacuumed and mopped a 90m2 space in around 170 minutes which is about the average for Gen 4.

Several features distinguish this robot from other robots in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with numerous improvements in terms of sensors, software and hardware to keep it ahead of its class. It is said to have autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments up to 260 square meters.

Freo's app lets you alter various functions, such as how often the robot returns to its base station. You can also change the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent or intelligent), or the mopping's humidity. The app can also identify areas with a lot of dirt and design a clean route, as well as dispensing detergent or raising the pads on carpet.

Other notable features include a simple-to-read display on the robot's underside and a dock door that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra is the best vacuum and mop for home or apartment owners who want to cut down on their chores, while keeping their homes clean and tidy.

Miele Scout RX3

Miele has a track record of quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. The new Miele robot is designed to take that to the next level by incorporating high-end features and superior cleaning performance.

cleaning robots  RX3 has dual suction and intelligent navigation that includes 3D mapping and a camera which transmits a live image to your smartphone for simple control. The powerful four-stage cleaning system ensures excellent dust removal on hard and carpet floors, while its easy-to-use side brushes with a swing-out feature and two suction channels keep corners clean. Its 8.5 cm height lets it reach under furniture with low levels. Front cameras and an infrared sensor assist in navigating barriers, thresholds and obstacles with ease.

The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it was able to clean baking powder from baseboards and corners. Its suction of 2,500 Pa was less powerful than other robots, but it moved quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop and its removable cleaning pad was difficult to attach. It also wasn't able to handle dirt that was dried on.

Its app lacks advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It supports Alexa however its voice commands don't seem to be very precise or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station after a run. Other robots can follow a wall or trace the previous route however the RX3 is a mess until it quits.

We also had issues with the intelligent features of the device, including its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a good job of keeping away from our furniture legs and shoes, it got easily hung up by socks and cables, and couldn't handle the tassels on rugs. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth considering as an alternative to uprights that are traditionally used.
