A robot vacuum is able to keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency at which you need to manually vacuum. Find one that has excellent navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners, and has a large dust bin that needs emptying only once in a while.
There are models that clean and charge on their own, a feature that may be important for people with pets or children. The top performers in our tests have decent obstacle avoidance.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. robot vacuum cleaner cheap differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ an excellent choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually when it is full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.
iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it may encounter. It's also a good idea to keep the bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it left off. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to fully recharge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot using voice or through the app.
In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and vacuum the area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. When connected to these services, we were able use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and evaluating the performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like a sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits in well next to the table for a coffee or a bookshelf where you can wave it around like an enchanted device.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery, which produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to suck up large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It is able to swiftly switch between handheld and floor vacuum and vice versa.
This model also has a dock that charges to 100% in 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main drawback of the V10 is its sluggish run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a common battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. That's still enough run time to vacuum the majority of a home that's average size, but not quite long enough to clean every spot (though the second time around usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694"
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have a lot of money to invest in an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and it often passes over the same areas many times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.
Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. Because of this, it may get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before making it back to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects in that it has fewer components that need regular cleaning It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.
The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more durable, has a stronger motor, and is more effective on floors with low pile and bare.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name is found on all kinds of electronic gadgets for your home So it's no surprise that they're also one of the top robotic vacuum and mop makers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.
The app provides a range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to comprehend and user-friendly, as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than some of the other models we tried, which might be a problem for some buyers.

The app allows you to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug for example has a dark-colored border which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
